It is a fact that 24 hour plumbing emergencies can be stressful. Having water, waste, or gas pour out of the house, it’s never a good experience. You can reduce your stress levels in an emergency by taking some simple steps.
Ask yourself “Is anyone at immediate risk of injury?” Although this question may not be relevant to most plumbing situations (especially when gas or electricity is involved), you should still ask it. You should take action if you think someone is at risk.
When you’re certain that no one has been injured, you should try to locate the leak. The gas leak will stop when you shut off the meter. The gas meter is usually found on the side or the back of the house. Turn the lever or small handle 90 degrees to rotate it. You can stop water leaks by turning off the main water supply. It is usually located at the front of or back your home/unit. Close it by turning the tap counterclockwise. You can stop leaks by turning off the cistern valve, which is usually located beneath the toilet cistern.
