If someone says that any surface can be used for a canvas, it’s not a joke! There are many surfaces to paint, from plywood to kites.

Abstract art can open the mind to a world of possibilities. Decide what to make, and on what. Then get started.
It’s best to keep things simple and light.
This step by step guide will teach you how to decorate kites for the season before flying them. For the first project, you will require a plain, unpainted kite, acrylic paints (and a brush and sponge), and paintbrushes.
You can create an abstract painting by choosing your colors and following the instructions below.
1. The first thing you need to do is dab your sponge on its flat surface into the paint that has been poured onto a plate. Pat the kite down with the damp sponge to see how the texture appears.
The color of your kite should not be too vibrant so as to obscure the texture or abstract artwork on top.
The sponge painting can be used to create designs in different colors.
2. Use paintbrushes instead of pencils to make any design you like on the kite.
It is important not to press down too hard on the kite-paper as it can be fragile. This becomes more so when the paper gets wet. This is why you should not rush through this technique but take it slowly.
3. After making the strokes or shapes you want, let it dry. Once it is dry, you can take off!
Hairdryer abstract art is another way to decorate your kite.
This will require a kite of your choosing, acrylic paints and a hairdryer.
Paint abstract art on your kite using the steps below
First, decide what colors you’d like to see. These colors won’t remain distinct and will eventually blend together in the subsequent steps. Decide on colors you are comfortable with or that complement eachother.
Once you’ve decided which colors to use, it’s time for the abstract art process. Pour the paint from their containers and into small bowls, tins, or other containers. Before you begin, it is best to move them to smaller bowls to avoid smudging your first piece.
Place old newspapers under the paint to prevent it from getting on the floor.
Once the paints have been prepared, start pouring a lighter color on the kite’s surface. Follow that with a slightly darker shade. Continue pouring colors until the darkest one is reached.
It’s possible to mix colors in the reverse order. You’ll end up with a globule on your kite. Be quick before the kite paper tears from the moisture.
3. Create an abstract masterpiece. Turn the hairdryer to high and begin moving the tool over the paint. From the inside, move the brush from the outside. This will air-spread the paint. You can move in any direction, it’s entirely up to you and the artist.
If you use the hairdryer to spread the paint outward, it will produce puddles. It is possible to combine all colors, or in some instances create new shades.
4. You will need to let your abstract art painting dry completely. The paper should not be ripped. Be careful to only use small amounts of the paint as the paper is very fragile.
5. The last step is to add the final details to your kite. Attach the piece net as a kite tail. It will fly behind your kite in the sky.
It is important to note that if you intend to paint the kite on both sides, you should let one side fully dry and cure before moving onto the other.
